Southern Gutters FL cleans, repairs and installs gutters across Broward County, the county we call home. Our North Lauderdale shop sits near the middle of its developed east side, so most addresses are roughly 5 to 35 minutes away, depending on traffic and which end of the county you live on. What sets Broward apart is the rulebook and the rain: the whole county sits inside the Florida Building Code's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone.

HVHZ wind rules, canal water tables and seventy years of Broward housing

Broward was carved out of Dade and Palm Beach counties in 1915 and named for Governor Napoleon Bonaparte Broward, who championed draining the Everglades. Most of what we work on went up after World War II, and the age of a neighborhood tells us a lot before the ladder comes off the truck.

  • 1950s–60s CBS ranch homes east of I-95 and along US 441: low-slope roofs, flat additions draining through scuppers, and original fascia that has often rotted behind old sectional gutters.
  • 1960s–80s condos and 55+ villas in the central corridor: long shared rooflines, association color rules and downspouts that empty onto walkways.
  • 1980s–2000s master-planned HOAs toward the Sawgrass Expressway: barrel and flat tile roofs, screened pool cages and covenant-controlled colors.

Flat additions on older CBS homes shed through scuppers, and the downspout below has to carry an entire roof section's water.

Water is the other constant. Much of western Broward is Everglades conservation land, and the eastern suburbs are laced with canals that hold the water table close to the surface. In a summer downpour the lawn is already saturated, so a downspout that splashes at the slab keeps that spot wet for hours. Near the Intracoastal and A1A, salt air adds corrosion to the list, which is why our crews hang every run on stainless-steel hardware.

The April 12, 2023 storm showed the rain side. The National Weather Service measured 25.91 inches in 24 hours at the Fort Lauderdale airport, beating the 1979 local mark of 14.59 inches. Gutters in this county have to be fastened for wind and sized for cloudbursts, not hung just to look tidy.

Routing crews along I-95, the Turnpike and the Sawgrass Expressway

We group Broward jobs by corridor. Coastal work in Pompano Beach, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and Fort Lauderdale rides I-95 and US 1. Central cities like Lauderhill, Sunrise and Plantation sit off Florida's Turnpike and University Drive, while Parkland, Coral Springs and western Sunrise line up along the Sawgrass Expressway. Clustering stops keeps arrival windows realistic without promising times traffic will not honor. From our central shop, one crew can finish a Tamarac villa building in the morning and a Fort Lauderdale bungalow after lunch.

Gated communities and condo associations get sorted out before the visit: we ask for gate access, the property manager's contact and any work-hour limits up front. Every estimate is free and comes back as a written quote listing linear feet, downspout count and whether haul-away is included. After the job, Chance or the crew lead follows up by phone to confirm the water is going where it should.

When a storm is in the forecast

Our calendar fills with cleanouts the moment a named storm appears on the cone. Make-safe and same-day visits happen when the schedule allows, but booking pre-hurricane gutter prep in June or July is the dependable route.

Which gutter services do Broward County homes need most in rainy season?

Across the county, the calls that come up most are cleanouts before and during the May–October rains, seamless replacements on houses still wearing sectional runs, and repairs after a summer squall tears a corner loose. Our guide to gutter rules in the HVHZ explains the code side in more detail.

From the Hillsboro Canal to the Miami-Dade line: where our Broward routes run

The Hillsboro Canal marks Broward's northern edge with Palm Beach County, and our routes run from Deerfield Beach and Parkland south to Hallandale Beach and Miramar at the Miami-Dade line. In between we regularly work the oak-shaded streets of Plantation, the New River neighborhoods around the county seat in Fort Lauderdale, barrier-island condos along A1A in Pompano Beach and the 55+ villa communities of Tamarac.

With canals holding the water table high, moving roof water away from the slab matters more here than in drier regions.

Broward counts 31 municipalities and close to 1.95 million residents in the 2020 Census, so code enforcement, HOA approvals and permit desks differ from one city line to the next. We keep notes on which communities require color approval and which condo boards want a certificate of insurance on file before a ladder goes up.

The jobs follow the corridors. Off US 441 and SR 7 it is often scupper cleanouts and fascia repair on flat-roof CBS additions. Near the Sawgrass Expressway it is color-matched seamless runs for tile-roof HOAs, and east of the Intracoastal it is stainless hanger swaps on salt-streaked condos, plus removal-only jobs ahead of a reroof anywhere in between.

From our North Lauderdale shop between Hampton Blvd and W McNab Rd, crews reach every Broward city by way of I-95, Florida's Turnpike, the Sawgrass Expressway or I-595.

“One of the hardest working guys I know, highly highly recommend! The work done is stunning and gives your house that extra umf to make it stand out!”

Sam Curtin · Google review, 2025

“From the moment I talked to Chance at sunshine gutters I knew he was the guy I am going to be hiring. He was honest professional and reliable above the fact that he was also very reasonable. I had to replace all the gutters at my two story house due to renovations and as such I was looking for a gutters company to do the job. Chance was definitely the right guy for the job. I have already recommended him to many of my friends.”

Broward County gutter FAQs

Do gutters in Broward County have to meet High-Velocity Hurricane Zone rules?

Broward is one of two Florida counties inside the HVHZ, where the building code sets stricter standards for the building envelope. Gutters fasten to fascia, so we repair rotted wood first and secure hangers with stainless hardware. Permit needs vary by city and scope; ask any contractor for county competency details and a certificate of insurance.

Which parts of Broward County do you reach from North Lauderdale?

Every developed corner of it. Our routes cover the coast from Deerfield Beach to Hallandale Beach, the central corridor along US 441 and University Drive, and the western suburbs out to Parkland, Weston and Miramar. Drive times run about 5 to 35 minutes from the shop, and we group appointments by area.

When should Broward homeowners schedule gutter cleaning ahead of hurricane season?

Aim for May, before the rainy season settles in and ahead of hurricane season's June 1 start. Homes under black olives or live oaks usually need a second cleaning in late summer or fall. Do not count on the calendar alone: the record April 2023 flood hit Broward weeks before the rainy season began. Calendars also fill quickly once a storm shows up in the forecast.
