Southern Gutters FL cleans, guards and replaces gutters across Plantation, about 20 minutes and 8 miles south of our North Lauderdale shop. The canopy is the whole story here. Live oaks and West Indies mahoganies drop leaves, twigs and woody seed pods mostly in the dry season, roughly November through April, when many owners assume the gutters can wait. By the first May storm, the troughs are packed.

Peters' long acres: 1950s–60s ranch homes under live oak and mahogany

The city traces back to Frederick C. Peters, who bought roughly 10,000 acres along what is now State Road 7 from the Everglades Plantation Company, the source of the name. Plantation incorporated in 1953 with fewer than 500 residents. Architect Russell Pancoast drew a plan with minimum lot sizes, separate zones for homes and businesses, and a rule that neighboring houses should not look alike.

That plan shows up on the roofline. The older neighborhoods east of University Drive are full of 1950s and 1960s ranch homes on wide lots, each with its own roof shape: hips, cross gables, flat-roof Florida rooms and long covered porches. Every change in roof shape adds a corner, and every corner on an old sectional gutter is a likely leak.

Varied rooflines were part of the city's original plan, and every corner they add is another joint for an old gutter to leak at.

Then there are the trees. Peters meant his one-acre long acres for gardens and fruit trees, and seventy years of growth have turned the oaks and mahoganies planted in the 1950s into one of the heaviest canopies in central Broward. The Arbor Day Foundation named Plantation a Tree City USA for 2023, the 40th time the city has earned that title. Mahogany pods, hard and roughly egg-sized, jam downspout outlets; oak leaves mat flat and hold moisture against the fascia, which is why we find so much soft wood behind gutters in this city.

How we work a visit, from Broward Boulevard ranches to Plantation Acres lots

Lots east of University Drive are wide and easy to reach, but limbs often hang directly over the gutter line. Before a ladder goes up we look overhead, note branches touching the roof and show you where trimming back would cut your cleaning frequency. Tree work is not something we do, so we point out the problem branches and leave the cutting to an arborist.

Hard mahogany capsules lodge in downspout openings and hold back everything that washes in behind them.

Out west in Plantation Acres, where lots run an acre or more and some streets feel almost rural, driveways are long and houses sit far back from the road. We plan those stops as their own block of time. On every visit we hand-clear the gutters, flush each downspout, bag and haul away the debris, and point out any hanger or fascia problems before we leave.

Serving Plantation from SR 7 to the western large lots

Our crews cover Plantation from its eastern edge at State Road 7 through the original neighborhoods along Broward Boulevard and Peters Road, the Jacaranda community, the streets around the Plantation Preserve golf course and out to Plantation Acres. Peters even donated 300 acres for the city's first golf course to coax the county into extending Broward Boulevard west.

Acre-plus lots on the west side set homes far back from the road behind long driveways and big shade trees.

Plantation had about 91,750 residents in the 2020 Census. Many households have stayed in the same ranch home for decades, and the gutters on those houses were often hung when the trees above them were half their current size.

Most of our Plantation calendar goes to seamless replacements that cut the corner count on cross-gable ranches near Peters Road, micro-mesh guards under mahogany canopy in the older neighborhoods, fascia repairs where matted oak leaves sat for years, and long-ladder cleanings on the set-back homes of Plantation Acres. Jacaranda and the other planned communities add HOA color review to replacement jobs.

From our North Lauderdale shop, crews head south on SR 7 (US 441) to Sunrise Blvd or Broward Blvd, then turn west into Plantation.

What do Plantation's oak-shaded ranch homes need from a gutter crew?

Most work in Plantation falls into three buckets: canopy cleanouts, guards that keep oak leaves and mahogany pods out, and replacing tired sectional runs. If you are comparing guard types, our breakdown of micro-mesh vs. screen gutter guards is a good place to start.

Plantation gutter questions we hear most

How often should Plantation homes under oak and mahogany trees clean gutters?

On the canopy streets east of University Drive, three cleanings a year is typical: late winter after the main oak leaf drop, late spring once mahogany pods have fallen, and fall after the rainy season. Lots with lighter canopy often manage with two. If water spills over the front edge during an ordinary afternoon storm, you are overdue.

Do gutter guards stop mahogany pods and oak leaves in Plantation?

Mostly. Micro-mesh guards keep out oak leaves, twigs and the woody mahogany capsules, which roll off the surface. Winged mahogany seeds and oak pollen can still settle on top of the mesh, so plan on a light brushing once or twice a year. Screen guards with larger openings let small debris through and suit this canopy less well.

Can you replace old sectional gutters on 1960s Plantation ranch homes?

Yes, and these homes are well suited to it. We remove the sectional runs, repair any soft fascia, then roll-form seamless aluminum on site to fit each roof section. Pancoast's rule that neighboring houses should not look alike left varied rooflines with many corners, so miters and outlet placement get close attention. The finished system comes with our 20-year materials and 3-year workmanship warranty.

Do you offer seasonal gutter maintenance plans in Plantation?

Yes. Our gutter maintenance plans time cleanings around the local leaf and pod drop rather than a fixed calendar, usually late winter, late spring and fall, from Jacaranda out to Plantation Acres. Each visit covers clearing gutters, flushing downspouts and checking hangers and fascia, so small problems are caught before the rainy season.
