When a storm leaves a gutter hanging off the roof edge, a downspout lying in the driveway, or water pouring over the front edge straight at your door, you need two things: to know whether it is dangerous right now, and to get someone out to deal with it. Our emergency gutter repair in South Florida is built around those two questions.

Our storm calls are handled by the same family-owned North Lauderdale crew that does our everyday work. We do make-safe work and same-day visits when the schedule allows, and we are honest when it does not. We photograph damage before and after so you have a record for your insurer, and we hand you a written plan for the permanent fix rather than pushing a full replacement on the spot.

Storm damaged gutters: what actually counts as an emergency?

Not every storm problem needs a crew today. The ones that do share one trait: something can fall on a person or a car, or water is getting inside.

Around here the damage usually traces to one of five things: hurricane or tropical-storm wind getting under the front lip, gusts from an afternoon squall line, a falling limb or palm frond, a clogged gutter so heavy with wet debris that the hangers let go, or fascia that was already soft.

Is it urgent? A quick triage

A sagging run that is still attached usually belongs with our standard gutter repair service rather than an emergency call.

What to do in the next hour, before anyone climbs a ladder

  1. Keep people and cars clear. Move vehicles and close off the area under a hanging section. Kids and pets stay inside.
  2. Look up for wires. If the gutter or a limb is touching the service line to your house, stay away and call FPL or your utility first.
  3. Do not pull on it. A partly attached gutter can tear more fascia or come down on you when tugged.
  4. Wait out the lightning. Ladders and aluminum in a thunderstorm are a bad combination.
  5. Take photos from the ground. Wide shots of each elevation and close-ups of the damage, before anything is moved.
  6. Slow the water inside. Towels at thresholds, a bucket under drips, furniture moved away from walls.

Ladders after storms

Wet ground, gusts and a damaged gutter that can no longer bear weight make post-storm ladder work one of the riskier things a homeowner can do. If in doubt, leave it hanging and keep the area closed.

How our emergency gutter service responds

When you call, we ask what you see, where it is, and whether anything is over a door, driveway or walkway. That tells us whether this is a same-day make-safe, a next-available repair, or something to handle after the storm passes.

Same day gutter repair, when the schedule allows

On an ordinary week we can often get to a hazard the same day. After a hurricane or a widespread squall line, every gutter company in the region gets the same flood of calls, and we work them in order of danger rather than order of phone call. We tell you honestly where you fall.

Typical before

Typical condition after a squall, before make-safe: a torn section hanging over the garage door with debris across the driveway.

Typical after

After make-safe: the section is secured back along the fascia and the driveway is cleared, with the permanent repair written up separately.

Is there 24 hour gutter repair?

We do not advertise round-the-clock crews or guaranteed arrival times, because we would rather keep a promise than make one. Ladder work in the dark during a storm is how people get hurt. What we can do is answer, triage, and get to you as soon as conditions and the schedule allow.

Why storm calls come to a family-owned crew

The person who answers is part of the same small company Chance has run since about 2020, and our 54 Google reviews lean on exactly what a storm week tests: Responsiveness was tagged 24 times and Punctuality 23. The phone is staffed Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM; photos sent to SouthernGuttersFL@gmail.com after hours are reviewed when the office opens. If a mangled gutter only needs to come off, we take removal-only jobs, and if the fix becomes a new system it carries our 3-year workmanship and 20-year materials warranty.

Gutter repair after storm or before one: which page fits?

Every emergency visit includes a hazard check, photos before anything is touched, the make-safe itself, and a written plan for the permanent repair. What comes next depends on which of five situations you are in, and each has its own page with specific steps.

A ripped-off downspout is rarely dangerous, but it dumps roof water right at the foundation.

On arrival: make-safe first, then a written plan

  1. Phone triage: what you see, where it is, and whether it hangs over a door, driveway or walkway.
  2. Hazard check on arrival: cones or tape below, a look for any contact with the service line, and a wait if lightning is still around.
  3. Photos before touching: wide shots of each elevation, then close-ups of hangers, seams and fascia.
  4. Make-safe: the loose section comes down, or goes back up temporarily on hidden hangers with stainless screws, from ladders with standoffs.
  5. Water moving again: a clogged outlet is cleared by hand or with a hand snake, and a torn downspout is redirected away from the foundation.
  6. Written plan: the permanent repair or replacement is quoted separately, and you decide when it happens.

Make-safe is temporary by design. It removes the hazard and keeps water off the walls until the permanent fix.

Make-safe work removes the hazard first; the permanent repair is quoted separately.

Hurricane-related work often hides a second problem: rotted wood. If hangers pulled out because the fascia was soft, the permanent fix includes fascia board repair before the gutter goes back up. You get a written quote for that permanent work, and you decide when it happens.

What affects the cost of an emergency visit?

We do not quote prices online, and an emergency call is still written up before work goes beyond make-safe. The main factors are:

  • Height of the damaged run and how safely it can be reached
  • How much is damaged and whether sections can be re-hung or need replacing
  • Whether make-safe and the permanent repair happen in one visit or two
  • Debris volume and haul-away
  • Fascia or soffit repair behind the gutter
  • Timing: a squeeze-in during the post-storm rush versus a scheduled repair a week later

Material matters too. After a regional storm, coil, hangers and downspout stock can run short across South Florida, so a permanent repair may wait on supply even when the make-safe happens right away. Splitting the job into two visits costs a little more in setup, but it lets you see the fascia and get insurance photos before committing to a scope.

If you prefer to talk it through, call (855) 633-0442 and describe what you see; we will tell you whether it can wait.

Insurance, licensing and post-storm rules worth knowing

Your insurer decides coverage; our photos record condition, they are not a claim estimate. Florida ended assignment of benefits for property policies issued on or after January 1, 2023 (SB 2-A), so expect to work with your carrier directly. Section 489.147 of the Florida Statutes bars contractors from soliciting roof-damage claims or offering incentives to file one, and section 489.127 makes unlicensed contracting during a declared state of emergency a felony. Check any storm-season contractor on DBPR's license lookup ask for a certificate of insurance, and be wary of anyone demanding a large payment before work starts. Downed or sagging service lines belong to FPL: call them before anyone touches a gutter near a wire.

Emergency & Storm Gutter Repair questions, answered

How quickly can you respond to a gutter emergency?

On a normal week we can often reach a hazard, such as a section hanging over a driveway, the same day when the schedule allows. After a hurricane or major squall line, demand spikes across the region, so we triage by danger. We do not promise arrival times, but we tell you honestly where you are in line.

Do you work on weekends and after storms?

After storms, yes; on weekends, not as a rule. The office runs Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and once winds drop and ladders are safe, post-storm calls are worked in order of hazard. Photos and messages sent over a weekend are reviewed first thing on the next business day. Until then, keep the area under a hanging section closed off.

Can you make a dangling gutter safe the same day?

Often, yes, when the schedule allows. Make-safe means taking the section down, temporarily re-securing it, or redirecting water so nothing falls or floods. It is not the permanent repair, which we quote separately once we can see the fascia and hangers properly.

Do you document damage for insurance claims?

Yes. We photograph each damaged area before and after make-safe and can provide those photos with a written description of what we found and what we did. Whether the damage is covered is your insurer's decision; we do not negotiate claims or promise coverage.

Should I call my insurance company or a gutter company first?

Safety first, then both. Photograph the damage from the ground, report the loss to your insurer promptly, and get the hazard made safe, since most policies expect reasonable steps to prevent further damage. Our make-safe photos and written notes can go straight to your adjuster. Read your policy for its reporting deadline; the coverage decision is the insurer's.
